Nurturing growth through early learning
At Wellesley Nursery, we welcome children from the age of two and support them through the most important early years of development.
Our experienced Early Years specialists create a nurturing environment alongside developing strong foundations in communication, phonics, mathematics, sport and music. We place great importance on the personal, social and emotional skills that underpin lifelong learning.
Our nursery children benefit from being within the wider school community while enjoying the warmth and care of a dedicated Early Years setting and for families who wish to continue that journey, the nursery sits within the wider Wellesley Prep community, a long established prep school that has been educating children for over 75 years.

What makes our nursery special?
Our Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, enriched by the Wellesley Nursery and Wellesley Prep Schools’ approach to learning.
Learning is shaped by children’s interests, making it exciting, meaningful and engaging.
Communication and language sit at the heart of everything we do, helping children develop confidence in expressing themselves and sharing ideas.
As part of the school community, children also benefit from specialist teaching in PE, swimming and music, as well as access to excellent facilities including the swimming pool, drama studio, sports hall and woodland learning spaces in addition to the wider Wellington Estate.
Settling In
Where children feel safe & supported
Starting nursery is a big step for both children and parents, so we make the transition as gentle and reassuring as possible.
Every family is invited to attend a relaxed “stay and play” taster session before their child begins, giving children the chance to explore the environment and begin forming relationships with staff.
Each day includes a balance of play and adult-led activities, allowing children to explore at their own pace while building confidence and independence.
Children join us from the age of two and are grouped according to their stage of development.
We maintain small class sizes and staff to child ratios in line with government guidance, ensuring every child receives individual attention and care.

Both of our children have attended/currently attend the Wellesley nursery. The care is excellent and my children are so happy skipping into nursery. The education is incredible and the learning is fun and often outdoors. Our child absolutely thrives here. He loves exploring in the woods, getting involved in messy play and taking part in PE sessions. The trips are always a big talking point at home too.
We have had a brilliant experience with all three of our children at Wellesley nursery. The care has been brilliant. The teachers are kind and attentive and the children look forward to going in each day. The topics chosen spark great interest and there are lots of opportunities for outside play and the trips to the woods are brilliant. Just what you wish for your children! I highly recommend.
Boiler suits and mud-covered welly boots are the norm for regular ‘Forest Friends’ exploration in the woodland classroom. There are gymnastics and PE sessions led by specialist teachers as well as Music and weekly swimming lessons in the onsite pool. And with a universal Nursery and Pre-Prep breaktime when the time comes to move up, it’s an easy and familiar transition.
The Wellesley journey begins in nursery where a 'real-life Miss Honey' nurtures the children and prepares them for a seamless transition to Reception. Play-based learning dominates in free-flow classrooms while outdoor space accommodates everything a small child could want.
Our child absolutely loves nursery and often asks if they can go back the next day! We love how much time the children spend outdoors exploring and learning through play.
